Yes, it’s true. If you’re doing yoga, you’ll contort your body into an unnatural-looking shape. But most of the evidence for the benefits of yoga – especially for kids – suggests that it’s the subtler aspects of this “moving meditation,” like breathing and awareness, that are magic ingredients to help them manage stress and anxiety.
Teach teens that writing skills pay off in the real world

Do you have a teen at home who hates writing, convinced they don’t need that skill because they want to be an engineer, welder, or hair stylist? Maybe you have a kid who thinks that being a “good writer” requires the ability to write sappy poems or stories about lovestruck vampires, two skills your child proudly doesn’t have. Congratulations! Your kid is normal. Still, you’ve got a problem: if you want your son or daughter to mature an adult who is taken seriously and gets promotions--no matter the job--you need to convince them that it pays to write well.
UHCL offenders program receives Regents' Academic Excellence Award

The University of Houston System Board of Regents presented the Regents’ Academic Excellence Award to the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s (UHCL) Texas Department of Criminal Justice Academics for Offenders Program. The award recognizes University of Houston System institutions’ programs and initiatives that exemplify excellence in teaching, research and/or public service.

UHCL fall commencement ceremonies Dec. 16 at NRG Arena

Over 1,050 University of Houston-Clear Lake students are expected to graduate this semester. Of those, approximately 892 plan to cross the stage at two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, Dec. 16 at NRG Arena, 1 NRG Park, Houston. A total of 667 will receive bachelor’s degrees, 377 will receive master’s degrees, and 12 will receive doctorate degrees. Additionally, 164 of 294 summer 2018 graduates plan to receive their diplomas at this commencement ceremony.
UHCL prof presents paper at international conference

Dilani Perera-Diltz, associate professor of counseling at University of Houston-Clear Lake, will present a paper titled, “Using Mindfulness Techniques to Promote Culturally Affluent Engagement” at a conference in Kingston, Jamaica on Nov. 13-16.

UHCL Faculty exhibition features art profs' work

An exhibition of art created by art faculty will be on display in University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art Gallery, with an opening preview reception Nov.15 from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition opens Nov. 15 and runs through Dec. 18.
