UHCL promotes 16 faculty members

Effective Sept. 1, University of Houston-Clear Lake will promote 16 faculty members, 10 of whom were elevated from assistant professors to associate professors with tenure, while six ascended from associate professors to full professors.

UHCL alum's feature film about wealthy Asians offers rich insights, cultural perspective

There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the release of the movie based on University of Houston-Clear Lake alumnus Kevin Kwan’s best-selling book, “Crazy Rich Asians” that premiered Aug 15. Fans of Kwan’s “Crazy Rich Asians” trilogy have been flocking to see the romcom, but according to UH-Clear Lake’s Associate Professor of Humanities Shreerekha Subramanian, who specializes in Asian American and South Asian literature and cinema, the movie’s impact on American entertainment culture will continue to resonate far beyond this summer.

Alumnus' career continues to gain strength across two continents

Junghai Xu met University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Associate Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences Bill Amonette in Beijing, when Xu acted as an English interpreter for him during his tenure as a strength and conditioning coach for the Chinese National Basketball Team as it prepared for the 2006 International Basketball Federation world championships in Japan. In return for Xu’s assistance, Amonette shared his knowledge about weightlifting, brought him to UH-Clear Lake to begin his own future in the same field, and became lifelong friends along the way.

UHCL to usher in new era with investiture of Blake as fifth president

University of Houston-Clear Lake will host the investiture of President Ira K. Blake Thursday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. as the culminating event in a week of activities commemorating Blake’s 2017 appointment to the post. She is UH-Clear Lake’s fifth president, its first woman and the first African-American to be appointed to the university’s highest office.

So, what happens to all the stuff we dig up at an archaeological site? It would be nice if we could bring it all home so we could study it further, but that’s not possible. Most nations have cultural property laws that make it illegal to remove archaeological finds from the county. The objects stay in storage, and scholars are able to get permits to work on them. Special items might go on display in a local museum.
