Students studying environmental science or biology at University of Houston-Clear Lake traveled to the Amazon River in Manaus, Brazil to explore the region and learn about the largest, most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest on the planet.
UHCL students visit Kenya; study healthcare, visit cultural sites

Six healthcare administration students, as well as 12 students in the Anthropology program took a two-week trip to Nairobi, Kenya last month. The healthcare group visited four area hospitals along with Ayadi and her faculty co-lead, Assistant Professor of Critical Social Psychology Enciso Dominguez.

UHCL alumna Kaylee Madden just completed her Bachelor of Science in Finance, but has her eye on a future in politics and leadership. That's why in 2020, she started the university's chapter of SUPERGirls SHINE Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at exposing young women of color to mentorship and leadership opportunities to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.

Maynard appointed UHCL's senior VP for Academic Affairs and provost

University of Houston-Clear Lake President Richard Walker has named Christopher Maynard as senior vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost, effective June 16. Maynard has held the position on an interim basis at UH-Clear Lake since September 2021.

Belinda Marshall was named Student of the Year by the Gulf Coast chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals. Bethany Morgan knew she wanted to be in a helping profession, and considered occupational therapy or school counseling, but finally decided on the mental health care profession, ultimately choosing to work with trauma patients to help them see that they can heal and move forward from their painful life experiences.
