Registered nurses with lapsed licenses can restart careers with UHCL program

Registered nurses whose licenses have lapsed need not look far for a way back to the workplace. Starting January 21, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Continuing Education program is offering courses that will help nurses who have been away from the nursing workplace for four years or more to reactivate their RN license and relaunch their careers.
Hispanic Heritage Month events showcase art for social justice

The Latinx and Latin American Studies Program at University of Houston-Clear Lake is launching the university’s first themed Hispanic Heritage Month. The month’s kickoff event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Forest Room of the Bayou Building.

For parents whose “little birds” are flying off to college this fall, residence hall move-in day can be bittersweet. University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrated the grand opening of its first traditional residence hall, Hunter Hall, and freshman David Trippon was among the first new Hawks to begin “nesting” in his new room.

The Apollo Chamber Players are honoring the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo moon landing with a special performance entitled “MoonStrike” at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater September 28 at 7:30 p.m. The concert features Emmy-winning Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate and Chickasaw astronaut Cdr. John Herrington, the first member of a Native American tribe to fly in space, joining as narrator and special guest.
Campus community welcomes first residents to new home in Hunter Hall

Move-in Day at Hunter Hall, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s first on-campus residence hall was a campus-wide affair filled with music, excitement and lots of helping hands. Volunteers from across the university, including faculty, staff, and other students, arrived first thing Thursday morning to welcome new undergraduate and graduate students, including junior Ethan Omo, who was among the first students to cross the threshold of the brand new building.

Behavior analyst's strategies help kids, teachers and parents

There are kids in school who always do what they’re supposed to do. Others might need a little help – or maybe a lot of help – to stay on-task in the classroom. Kenya Myles, who is earning her Master of Arts in Behavior Analysis at University of Houston-Clear Lake, was inspired to work with teachers on creating alternatives to punishment to effect positive behavior change after recently completing an internship in Clear Creek Independent School District.

For 25 Houston-area middle school girls thinking about a career in a STEM-related field, the Soaring Hawks Girls Code Academy at University of Houston-Clear Lake was an eye-opening week of designing, creating, and digitally innovating. For Texas Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez III, it was a chance to see the Texas Workforce Commission Grant that provided them the scholarship to attend the academy in full action.
