UHCL residence hall opens in August for fall semester

For college students looking for the immersive experience of campus life, Hunter Hall, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s new on-campus residence, is taking applications now for students attending the university this fall.

Residents will find a full-service front desk, laundry facilities on each floor, study lounges on each floor, a community lounge, community kitchen, an outside patio and electronic swipe access to the building, rooms and suites. Trained resident advisers, hired recently and currently going through training, will live on each floor. A new residential life coordinator will join as well to serve as an on-site resource to residents.

“Our team is here to help students thrive academically and socially, build relationships, and connect to campus life,” said Matthew Perry, director of Student Housing and Residential Life. “We strive to provide students with a ‘home away from home’ experience where they are able to live, learn and engage with their peers.”

Perry added that students who live on campus tend to succeed, not just in the classroom, but also in life because they learn to adapt to their environment and live in a community, leading to greater empathy and the ability to relate to others.

Room layouts include single rooms with a private bath, two-person suites with a shared bath, and four-person suites with a shared bath.

Payment through students’ accounts covers maintenance, electricity, water, sewer and garbage, cable TV in the lounges, laundry, and high-speed internet (wireless and wired). UHCL’s full-service police department is available 24/7. Hunter Hall is adjacent the Recreation and Wellness Center and a short walk to Student Services and Classroom Building and Bayou Building, where students will find UH-Clear Lake’s Alfred R. Neumann Library and Patio Café.
