University of Houston-Clear Lake President Ira K. Blake has named De’Awn Bunch as
the university’s first Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
She will begin her role Aug. 20.
“We look forward to welcoming De’Awn to lead our Marketing and Communications team,”
Blake said. “She brings a wealth of experience that will assist in elevating the university’s
presence in Bay Area Houston and beyond.”
In this role, Bunch will lead marketing and communications efforts to advance the
university’s strategic goals. She and the marketing and communications team will collaborate
with university leadership, admissions, student services, faculty, staff and community
partners to develop strategies that support recruitment and retention, facilitate
partnerships and enhance the reputation of academic programs.
Bunch comes to UH-Clear Lake with more than 10 years of experience in marketing, branding
and communications, including six years at University of Houston. She currently serves
as Executive Director of Enrollment Services Communication and Marketing at UH, where
her team has been instrumental in implementing strategies to support recruitment,
enrollment and retention. Their efforts earned two 2018 Crystal Awards for Non-Profit,
In-House Marketing Campaign, and Product and Service Brochure from the American Marketing
Association.
While at UH, Bunch provided collaborative leadership across 27 departments and programs
as communications manager for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
In this role, she served as the lead consultant for marketing and brand standardization
to the areas of health and wellness, student activities, housing and residential life
and support services. Her leadership experience at UH includes a previous role on
the Homecoming Steering Committee, and assisting the Division of Student Affairs develop
its strategic plan.
Bunch’s experience includes positions at Beaumont Enterprise, Lamar State College-Orange
and FleishmanHillard, a global PR and digital marketing agency.
Bunch earned her Master of Business Administration in 2012 from Bauer College of Business
at UH. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2006 from Emory University
in Atlanta.
A search committee of faculty and staff met with a diverse pool of candidates before
making final recommendations to Blake.
