What makes a prescription or over-the-counter drug work best? One of the key factors in a drug’s efficacy is its solubility, says Arcadius V. Krivoshein, assistant professor of chemistry at University of Houston-Clear Lake. In a recent article published in the journal Chirality (2017, vol. 29, pp. 623-633), Krivoshein and collaborators presented some new research results that would help scientists predict how quickly drug molecules will dissolve and enter the bloodstream.

UHCL prof receives grant to continue work on Cyprus archaeological dig

Since 2008, a team of archaeologists from around the world has been conducting fieldwork annually as part of the Pastio-Mesorotsos Archaeological Expedition in the Dhiarizos Valley of Cyprus. University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Assistant Professor of Art History Sarah Costello has been among them, funded by a faculty research support grant that allows her to continue her work at this unique excavation site cataloguing Neolithic pottery. Costello will travel to Cyprus for a week in July to finalize her work on the dig. A UHCL graduate student, Brianne Thoen, will spend five weeks excavating the site with the team.
Expansion of facilities, opportunities progress at UHCL Pearland Campus

Construction of the $24.6 million Health Sciences and Classroom Building continues at University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus. The facility is scheduled to open for classes in spring 2019. The campus, at 1200 Pearland Parkway, will expand its healthcare-related academic programs, notably its bachelor of science in nursing, which targets registered nurses who seek a degree.

University of Houston-Clear Lake officials, as well as representatives from Austin Commercial Project and PBK Architects, Inc. gather at a topping out ceremony for the Health Sciences Classroom Building on UHCL Pearland Campus, celebrating the completion of the structural phase of the project. The new $24 million, 69,500-square-foot building, scheduled to open in spring 2019, will allow for the expansion of the campus’ nursing and other healthcare programs.
