Community college art exhibition to open at UHCL Art Gallery

Artists currently studying studio arts in area community colleges are presenting their works in the Art Gallery at University of Houston-Clear Lake in a juried exhibition titled, “15th Houston Area Community College Student Exhibition.” The public show opens Thursday, Nov. 9 and runs through Friday, Dec. 15. The opening reception is Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 5-7 p.m. with an awards presentation at 6 p.m.
Student documents art prof’s process for short film competition

Junior art and design student Jonathan Zapata chose his ceramics professor, Clay Leonard, to be the subject of a short documentary film that he submitted for competition. His film, which highlighted Leonard’s process in creating serving plates, won runner-up.

UH-Clear Lake to host digital humanities ‘unconference’

The University of Houston-Clear Lake is hosting its first The Humanities and Technology Camp, or THATCamp, to bring together researchers, educators and others who use digital means to study human society and culture. Called an “unconference” for its mostly free-form structure, the theme of the Nov. 3-4 event is data visualization, the practice of giving data visual context to make it more easily understandable.
