Blog: Profs travel Kenya, set foundations for UHCL student study abroad opportunities

We (Dr. Woldu, pictured left, and I) are continuing our goal of setting up the Memorandum of Understanding between University of Houston-Clear Lake and United States International University-Africa by scouting sites for UHCL students to visit on future study abroad trips to Kenya. In addition to attending classes at USIU and interacting with Kenyan professors and students, as well as seeing the cultural and historical sites in Nairobi, we hope to enable UHCL study abroad students to see other parts of Kenya. On Friday, we took the train from Nairobi to the port city of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean. In addition to seeing smaller Kenyan villages en route, we passed through Tsavo East National Park, seeing giraffes, elephants, zebras, and ostriches right outside the train window. Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city, is at least 700 years old, and reflects Indian, Islamic, Portuguese and Swahili cultures.
